Akio Nagasawa Gallery Aoyama is pleased to present solo exhibition WARP TRIP by Saiko Otake.
Otake was born in 1988. After graduating from Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, London, she has continued to create her own works using a variety of techniques including painting, photography and mural painting. This exhibition will feature her first oil paintings on canvas and silk screen works, and new photographic works. A new zine will be published in conjunction with the exhibition.

Artist Statement
Was it five seconds ago, or five million years?
My memory of sometime is quietly engraved on my mind.
I close my eyes for a moment, and dive deep into the gaps in time and space.

I am free, forever.

The call of pigeons cooing at dawn reminds me of the balcony in Shinjuku where I waved my hand to see my father off.
The sunlight warmly tinting the backs of my eyelids reminds me of a nap on the veranda in Uwajima.
The smell of ink on paper reminds me of the library in London where I used to read widely.

My very first oil painting was when I was in elementary school.
The molecules of turpentine evoke my peaceful distant summer memories: my father, my sister, van Gogh’s sunflowers and Matisse’s goldfish.

I long to be free, forever.
