Akio Nagasawa Gallery Ginza is pleased to present "Les Rayons et les Ombres," a solo exhibition by Aurore de La Morinerie.
Aurore is a Paris-based artist who creates monotype artworks with watercolor, ink, and ink-wash paints, mainly using traditional etching press machines.
This exhibition, her second solo exhibition at AKIO NAGASAWA Gallery, will focus on the theme of a journey to the Mediterranean Sea, illustrating creatures, waves, rocks, and sand from the coastal landscapes.
A publication under the same title will also be released on the occasion of the exhibition.

I am more than delighted to be invited by Akio Nagasawa Gallery for the second time, which gave me the chance to explore further a theme that I am passionate about.
If the first exhibition concentrated on fashion, a world that has heavily influenced my work since my fashion design studies, my profound attachment to nature has been a constant source of inspiration.
Landscapes, plants, and animals have always played a great role in my creations. After the Tara Expédition adventure and the book “Mediterranean Sea (published by Louis Vuitton)” , I sensed a strong desire to pursue and deepen my graphic explorations of the underwater world.
For this exhibition, my attention pivots to the sea: its depths, and the life of animals and plants. I have also focused my research on movements and color tones to reveal the unknown and invisible richness of the submarine realm.
My love for Japan, a place I visited on many occasions, has radically changed my aesthetic. This is where my craze for inks, water, papers, and paint brushes comes from, as well as for other techniques such as stenciling, engraving and printing.
Using the interplay of lights and shadows, I have tried to translate the mystery lying within the infinite space of the ocean, into a poetic and dreamlike approach. This is why I chose to title this exhibition “Les rayons et les ombres” (eng. tr: Lights and Shadows) after Victor Hugo’s collection of poems.

Aurore de La Morinerie

French artist and illustrator, Aurore de La Morinerie graduated as a fashion designer from the Ecole supérieure des Arts appliqués Duperré, in Paris. At the same time, she attends class of calligraphy and Chinese painting during several years.
Her success as a fashion illustrator is confirmed in the beginning of the 1990’s. She works for Hermès, Alaïa, Chanel, Cartier, Omega, Maison Martin Margiela, Rick Owens, H&M, Aesop, Lancel, Tiffany, Nieman Marcus and Le Printemps department stores… And is a regular contributor to French newspaper Le monde and its weekly supplement issue, the New York Times T Magazine, the American and British issues of Harper’s Bazaar, French ELLE, AD, …
She has been represented by the Gallery Bartsch & Chariau, Munich, till 2018.
She took part to fashion illustrations exhibitions at the London Design Museum in 2010, and Hamburg Kunst und Gewerbe Museum in 2015.In 2011, the Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris - Palais Galliera commissionned her a series of monotypes to illustrate the catalogue of the exhibition Azzedine Alaïa. In 2015, for the exhibition La Mode Retrouvée - The wardrobe of the Countess Greffulhe at the Palais Galliera, she realizes a set of drawings presented in the exhibition and reproduced in the catalogue.
Ten works of her series on Azzedine Alaïa are part of the permanent collection of the Graphic Arts of the Palais Galliera.
